Passwords

This topic is divided into two sections, the first section explains how each user can establish his or her own password after an administrator with security rights has set up a new user. The second section explains how a user can change an existing password.

Setting Up New Passwords

These instructions are intended to show each user how to establish his or her own password for the first time.

1.        Double-click on the GlasPacLX icon to open the application. At start up, the following GlasPacLX Login window is displayed.

2.        In the “Branch” field, use the drop-down menu to select the branch you are trying to log on to.

3.        In the “User ID” field, enter your user name.

4.        The first time you log on to GlasPacLX, enter “Password” in the Password field. The following window will prompt you to change your password.

5.        The New section displays two fields. In the first field, enter your new password. Then in the second field, re-enter your new password.

Note: Choose a password that is hard to guess. Do not use your nickname, favorite sports team, or spouse’s name, for example. The best passwords are nonsensical combinations of letters, numbers, and symbol characters. These may be harder to remember, but a password does no good if someone else can guess it.

6.        Select the OK button to return to the GlasPacLX Login window.

7.        In the “Password” field, enter your new password and select the OK button to start using GlasPacLX.

Other Considerations

·                If you start working at a terminal or computer that another person has been using, use the Login icon from the File menu to log on as yourself.

·                If you leave your terminal, log out so that other persons cannot use your security clearance to access data or functions they are not authorized to use.

Changing Passwords

1.        Double-click on the GlasPacLX icon to open the application. At start up, the following GlasPacLX Login window is displayed.

Or, if you are already logged into GlasPacLX, select the Login icon in the tool bar to display the GlasPacLX Login window.

2.        Select the Change Password button to display the following window.

3.        The “New” section displays two fields. In the first field, enter your new password. Then in the second field, re-enter your new password.

4.        Select the OK button to return to the GlasPacLX Login window.

5.        In the “Password” field, enter your new password and select the OK button to start using GlasPacLX.

Setting up Other Users

When you are setting up a user, you have the option of clearing the user’s Password field. If you do this, the first time the user enters his or her user name on the GlasPacLX login window, he or she will be prompted to provide and verify a password.
