Enabling XP_CMDSHELL to allow GlasPacLX to create a database Follow

Overview

There are occasions when SQL Server has to be installed manually, and when this is done there can be time when the XP_CMDSHELL is not enabled automatically.  When a new database is created, an error occurs say that the XP_CMDSHELL is not enabled and must be enabled for GlasPacLX to create the database.  These instructions will walk you through enabling this feature.

NOTE:  Entries listed between < > should be replaced with the information referenced.  Remove the < > characters as well when entering the commands.

Steps

Open a Windows Command Prompt.

At the prompt, type the following command to connect to the SQL Instance:

OSQL -S <server_name\instance_name> -U sa

You will be asked for the sa password.  Enter the following lines to activate XP_CMDSHELL.

-- To allow advanced options to be changed.

EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
GO

-- To update the currently configured value for advanced options.

RECONFIGURE
GO

-- To enable the feature.

EXEC sp_configure 'xp_cmdshell', 1
GO

-- To update the currently configured value for this feature.

RECONFIGURE
GO

Once you have enter all of the above code, then type exit to log off of the SQL server and type exit again to close the Command Prompt.

You can now create a new GlasPacLX database on the SQL server.
