If a user tries logging on with the wrong password too many times, Linux will lock their account. These directions show how to release the lock on the user account.
- Login as root
- Type faillog –a to view all failed logon accounts.
- This listing will display all locked user accounts and how many failed tries were made. Non-locked accounts will also display if there are any failed attempts as well.
- To release a single account, type faillog –r <user_name>
- To release all accounts, type faillog -r
